A woman in science in BC discovered a fascinating process in this species almost a hundred years ago!

These giant jellyfish have as many as 1,200 stinging tentacles trailing behind their bell, offering shelter to young crabs, and stunning their prey. Their return to our harbour is one of our favorite parts of the summer!

If you've had a chance to explore our touch tank, you may have noticed a smooth leathery sea star that smells like garlic! Leather stars, also called garlic stars, are common around the docks of Prince Rupert, where they send anemones swimming and host hitchhiking worms.
