About the Role
Spend Your Summer on the rugged North Coast.
Imagine spending your summer steps from the ocean. You’re caring for live marine invertebrates, leading hands-on programs for curious kids, designing mini-exhibits about local species, and maybe even spotting eagles and killer whales from the dock. The North Coast Ecology Centre Society is hiring up to two Environmental Educators for Summer 2026.
This is more than a summer job. It’s an opportunity to gain real-world environmental education experience, build practical field skills, and help shape a growing community Ecology Centre on a coastline teeming with marine life.
What You’ll Actually Be Doing
As an Environmental Educator, you’ll be part of a small, passionate team bringing marine science to life. In addition to working at the Centre, in May and June, you’ll support school programming and in July and August, you will help with EcoCamp day camps and community programming. The NCECS is also leading a dockside biodiversity study and supporting a light trap study throughout summer months.
You will:
Open, operate, and close the Centre alongside staff and volunteers
Collect and provide exemplary care for live marine invertebrates
Develop and deliver interactive interpretive programs
Design creative displays and mini-exhibits
Engage visitors through hands-on environmental education
Support and mentor volunteers
Assist with school programs and EcoCamp day camps
Conduct visitor surveys and gather feedback
Support communications, social media, and reporting
Collaborate with partners and board members
Contribute ideas to help grow and strengthen the Centre
This role is ideal for students interested in marine biology, environmental science, conservation,
education, or community-based stewardship.

About NCECS
NCECS is a registered charity working toward the creation of a permanent ecology education centre in Prince Rupert, BC. Our mission is to inspire awe, respect, and stewardship for the North Coast’s rich terrestrial and marine environments. We operate within the traditional territory of the Ts’msyen and Sm’algyax speaking peoples and are committed to incorporating Indigenous knowledge, stories, and language into our programming. As we work toward our permanent Center, we deliver programs, exhibits, camps, and events throughout the community. Our summer programming takes place out of our retrofitted shipping container on the waterfront as part of the Lax Süülda Container Market. Yes, whales have been spotted from here. We operate under a catch and release approach and will be collecting and releasing animals carefully several times through the season.
